"CINDERELLA"
Digital illustration for print @ 18x24”/300ppi. Made primarily in Adobe Photoshop.
A reinterpretation of the darker version of the Cinderella story recorded in Grimm’s Fairy Tales. While the original tale contains explicit violence, this illustration approaches its darkness more subtly, exploring the uneasy atmosphere that surrounds the moment of transformation.
The viewer is placed in Cinderella’s perspective, riding in the enchanted carriage as it approaches the distant castle. The fairy godmother and the magical carriage are designed to feel slightly uncanny, reflecting the idea that magic in folklore is often both wondrous and unsettling. The eerie figures in the foreground contrast with the quiet, idyllic village and castle beyond.
