URSIDAE GRYPUS
Digital illustration, 20x24 in / 300 ppi. created with mixed media.
A creature design exploring a hybrid between a bear and the mythological griffin. I began the concept with pencil and ink to establish the anatomy and silhouette, then brought the drawing into Photoshop for color and final rendering.
I imagined the scene taking place moments after the creature ambushed a group of travelers on a mountain pass. Broken wagon parts and the remains of the expedition hint at the encounter, while other members of the species circle overhead, suggesting that these winged predators rule the cliffs above.
